Creating a Simply Organized Life!
December 28, 2009

I love the holidays.  I also like to make the post Christmas season clean-up as stress less as possible.  Whether you decorate a lot or just a little, use these tips when you pack up your decorations this year and you will save time next Christmas season.

Seven Tips To Simplify Decorating

1. Use plastic storage bins/one bin per category of decorations.  For example I have one bin for my Christmas lights, tree skirt and extension cords.  Another bin is used for my outdoor lights and cords, and yet another one for all my tree ornaments.

2. Categorize decorations by each area of your home and store in separate bins.  If you are like my mom, who loves to decorate, then it may be beneficial to have a bin for each decorated area of your home (bathrooms, kitchen, entryway, ect.)  Grouping decorations makes it simple to decorate your house one room at a time.

3. Photograph your decorated areas. Here’s another tip I learned from my mom.   My mom had an area in her living room that she decorated “just right” so she photographed the area and stored the photo with those decorations. (See where I inherited my love of organizing?)

4. Use a separate box for table linens, special towels, decorative pillows and afghans or throws.

5. I have a bin of items that I use early in the Christmas season.  My advent candles, advent calendar, Christmas scented candles and Christmas place-mats are in one bin.  These items are used before I fully decorate my house.  I don’t have to dig through the other boxes to find these items.

6. Label all the boxes with the contents.

7. Consider donating any decorations you did not use this year.  Middleton Outreach Ministry is a wonderful organization that will accept your donations.  Contact me for more information.

Use these tips and you will find more time for joy and less time wasted looking for your decorations in 2010.

I wish you a year filled with blessings and I am grateful to have you as a subscriber!
